We are finishing school this week and I am ready for a break. It's been raining a lot here lately. My garden is really growing. I have tiny green tomatoes the size of large marbles. I'm here again. I've been working on a kit I call Fantabulous. It's kind of a simple kit. I hope you can use it. My computer has been giving me problems so my husband wiped the hard drive again. He just did it in March but it was really running slow. Anyway, I'm back up and running now.

Beach Papers

We had a great time in Panama City, Florida. We stayed in a condo right on the beach. There was a lot of competition as Katie was competing with gymnasts from 8 states but she did well and we are very proud of her. We went to the beach everyday. The girls enjoyed boogie-boarding and making sand castles. My oldest daughter even made a dolphin sand sculpture. There was quite a bit of noise there as Thunder Beach Bike Week was going on at the same time as we were there. There was an estimated 300,000 bikers there so we heard motorcycles a lot. I took some of my pictures and made a mini-kit of Beach papers for you. I hope you can use these.

On a sad note, Bear never came home.

Rain Papers - part 2

My daughter and I went and posted "Lost Cat" posters all over the neighborhood yesterday and we asked some children in the neighboring area if they had seen a cat and this little girl said that she had seen a gray cat a couple of days ago go into the sewer underground and she showed us where. My daughter had a couple of friends with her who went to the sewer and called for Bear, our missing cat. We did hear a meow from the sewer but we had no way of getting her. One of my daughter's friends suggested calling the fire department to get her out. I went over to the local fire department and asked if they could help so three firemen came over and lifted the grate and a cat did come out but it was not my Bear. Sadly, she is still missing. We did feel so grateful to the fire department that my daughter made brownies and we took them over to them as a small token of our appreciation. They really are our "heroes"!

One of our cats, Bear, has been missing since Thursday. She got out of the house while I was at the gym with my youngest and we haven't seen her since. She used to be an outdoor cat but she had a stroke and nearly died. She got better but she has never been the same cat so we keep her indoors. My youngest is heart-broken as well as the rest of the family. If you think about it, we'd appreciate a prayer for her safe return.

I decided to just start with a new kit without the preview this week. If you like my blog header and sides, I think you will like this kit. It's simply called "Rain". I actually made this kit last year but wanted to wait until this month of April to give it to you. The papers come in 3 parts as the file is big. Today you get the first download. If you want all of the papers, you'll have to come back.

The weeks seem to be flying by. Hubby planted tomato plants today. There's nothing like a fresh home-grown tomato! You'll never want to eat a store-bought tomato again. We also plant cucumbers, summer squash, bell peppers, and cantaloupe. Yum! Here is the 2nd alpha to the Colorful Grunge kit. The cute little basket in the preview is from Granny Art. She is getting ready for Regionals which is in Panama City, Florida so we are making a vacation out of the trip. The girls have only been to Florida once so we are really looking forward to it. Tutorial- Design a Mask (part 2)

Are you ready for the next part of the tutorial? If you missed part 1, go to yesterday's post. Today, we are going to make the mask "pretty" by adding paper to it.

Circles Mask Tutorial
Also known as Design a Photo Mask- part 2

1. Open your circle mask .png file that you created in the first tutorial. If you do not have the first tutorial (Design a Photo Mask), you can download a copy at my blog.

2. Open some paper. I opened Sherbert Paper 1 from my Sherbert kit.

3. Click on the layer that shows the paper and drag it over the circle mask. You should now see the paper only as the mask is underneath it. You should have 2 layers in your layer palette. Close the paper file as you are done with it.

4. Since the paper file is size 12X12 and my mask is much smaller the paper will be too big to show nice detail. In order to show the detail of the paper correctly you need to reduce the paper size to just fit over the mask. You can do this by clicking CTRL + T, then CTRL + 0 (zero). You should see the bounding box. Click on a corner of the box and reduce the size of the paper to just fit over the mask. Click the green check when done.

5. We are ready to make a clipping mask now. See the red circle on the screen above? Put your mouse there… between the two layers. Hold the ALT button down. You should see what looks like 2 black circles joined together. Click. You should be able to see your beautiful circle mask now!

6. Notice what has happened to your layers. The paper layer has moved to the left with an arrow. It has been “clipped” to the layer below. Save as a .png file.

Tiffany asked a great question regarding the tutorial on Designing a Mask. She asked if you really needed to simplify. The answer is NO. The reason you don't need to simplify each layer is, at the end, when you merge all the layers together, it simplifies itself. Thanks, Tiffany, for asking that question. Tutorial - Designing a Mask

Michelle wanted to know how to create a mask after she saw it in a layout so I thought I would show you how to design a simple mask. This tutorial will be in two parts. Here is the first part.

Design a Photo Mask Using Photoshop Elements 6.0 1. Start with a New File. I made mine 6 inches in width and 6 inches in height with a 300 resolution. Make the background transparent.

2. Click on your Shape tool and click on the Rectangle Tool.
3. Draw a rectangle. Leave some room on the top and bottom as we will be adding to those areas. Simplify the layer. You can do this by clicking on the top bar and clicking “Simplify” or you can right-click on the layer and click “Simplify layer”.
4. Now we are going to add a design with custom shapes. I will be using Design Circles. You can download these for free from http://allsilhouettes.com/design-circles/.

5. Pick a circle shape that you like and add it to the top of your rectangle.

6. Keep adding random circles to the top and bottom of your rectangle. Simplify each layer. When you are done, it should look something like this. 7. Next, merge all layers by right-clicking on the layer palette and clicking “merge visible”. 8. Save as a .png file. You have now made a mask template that you can use with hundreds of different papers. I will show you how to use this mask with different papers in the next part of the tutorial.

Happy Monday. Today we start with a new kit that I had a lot of fun making. I actually made some of the papers and elements from actual pictures that I took at the San Diego Zoo and the Wild Animal Park. A few of you have asked how the gymnastics meet went this past weekend. My daughter did well. She placed 3rd on beam and 5th in all-around score. We were very proud of her considering she had hurt her toe the day before the meet. I'll post pictures later. Today I have for you something from the "Odds and Ends" drawer on my hard drive. It's a Neon Alpha. I hope you can use it. Enjoy.

"Acrylic Look" Tutorial

Nanascraps requested a tutorial for the "acrylic look" that I used in making the Sherbert Alpha 1. Since I recently learned from Eila how to save a screen shot, I thought I would give it a try. Please note that this is my first tutorial ever so please bear with me.

“Acrylic Look” Tutorial Using Photoshop Elements 6.0

1. Start with a New File. I start with 12 inches in width and 12 inches in height, with a 300 resolution. Make your background Transparent.

2. Next, with your Type Tool, type a word. It doesn’t matter what color you use as we are going to change it later. Make the text big enough to see. I used 150 pt.

3. Next, open up a paper that you want the text to look like. I opened Sherbert Paper 5 from my Sherbert kit. Now drag the paper layer over to the text. You should now have two layers and should not be able to see your text as it is under the paper. (You can close the paper file as we are done with it.)
4. Now, this is a tricky part if you have never done this before. We are going to make a clipping mask. Do you see where the red dot is on the screen below? Put your mouse there… right between the two layers. Hold the ALT button down. You should see what looks like 2 black circles joined together. Click. You should be able to see the text now but it has changed to look like the paper. Cool, huh! Notice what has happened to your layers. The paper layer has moved to the left with an arrow. That means it has been “clipped” to the layer below.

5. Next, merge the two layers together. Do this by right-clicking on the top layer (see red circle below) and click merge down. You should just have one layer now.

6. We will now work on a simple way to make your text (or any shape) look like it has an “acrylic” look. Click on your style button (circled in red), then click on the pull-down menu (circled in red on the right) and go down to “Glass Buttons”. If you are using Photoshop Elements, you should have this. Click on “Translucent Glass. (see red arrow below).

7. We are not done yet. Duplicate the layer. I do this by dragging the layer to the little square icon right above it. You can also copy the layer by hitting CTRL + j. You should now have two layers (see red circle below).

8. Make sure the top layer is highlighted (see no. 1 below). Click on the “Glass button” style at the top and go down to Wow-Plastic. Click on Wow-Plastic Clear.

9. Your text should now look like it has an acrylic look. I like to clean it up a bit so I click on the little blue FX icon on the top layer.

10. Adjust the levels to your liking. There you have it!

TIP: If you want a clear “see-through” text, skip step 7 only. Do not duplicate the layer.

Broken Links with 4shared

I got a message from Lindsay that one of my links was broken. Apparently 4shared has decided to just stop some of the links. I have heard this from other sites as well. Lindsay, I have repaired the link by downloading it again and getting a new link so it should work now. I don't know how many other links may be broken (and it's too time-consuming to try all of them) so if any of you find a broken link on my blog please let me know so I can repair it. I know how frustrating it can be when you find something that you really want and then the link is broken. It has happened to me before. Have a great weekend!

I haven't had much time to work on kits lately. I have quite a lot in my stash but they are all "odds and ends". They are not kits. Happy Monday! We are on Spring Break this week so no school for us. This morning I'm taking my daughter to gymnastics practice. The gym will be having practice in the mornings this week since it's Spring Break. We are getting ready to go to a State Gymnastics Meet this Saturday. Several of you have asked for an update on the "mysteriously missing remote". It still is missing. I guess it hasn't been found because we rarely watch tv. I have the Sherbert Papers for you today. I really love the color palette on this kit. It just cheers me up to look at these bright colors. I hope it does the same for you. By the way, I wanted to let everyone know that my papers are always 12X12 at 300 dpi quality. I guess there are some on the web that are not of the same quality as that.

I've been working on taking all of my home movies that are in VHS format and transferring them to my computer, editing them, and then burning them onto DVDs. It is very time consuming but these are home videos of vacations and my daughters growing up so it has to be done. It just takes forever because I have to watch the videos as they are being downloaded onto my computer. I have to do this as sometimes frames will be dropped and the video capture will stop. The VHS videos are not the best quality. Some are 15-20 years old. I have finished 2 of them so far. I have another 20 or so to go.

Well, from the comments, it seems that everyone is ready for some bright colors. I'm glad because these colors are definately bright! Today, I have the paper add-on. These are just 2 papers in .png format as they have a torn-paper edge. If you want the other papers in the preview you can find them in yesterday's post. Enjoy!

Grand Canyon Alpha 2

I've been busy designing more items for "you'll". Lately, I've had so many ideas in my head. It's just figuring out how to do them! I am working on the gymnastics kit but it may be a few kits before I can get that one done. I am doing some special things to that one and it is a lot of intense work. I'm not going to tell you what I am doing as I do not want to spoil it. Here is the 2nd set of alphas for the Grand Canyon kit. As you saw my layout yesterday, you can use this kit for things other than the Grand Canyon. That is perfectly acceptable to me. In other words, I do not have a clause in my TOU (terms of use) that says, "You have to use this for a Grand Canyon trip only". Although, if you choose to go to the Grand Canyon, which I would highly recommend if you have the opportunity to do so, I would love for you to use this kit to scrap all of your memories. There. Wait...let me catch my breath! O.K. , I'm fine now.

Oh, by the way, Eila at A Day in the Life, does have a beautiful layout on her blog using this kit. You should go and visit her if you have a moment.

How is everyone in Scrapland today? I have been working away at designing lately. I am trying to design a gymnastics kit but this will take a while. Today, I have for you the first set of alphas to the Grand Canyon kit. Yes, I actually made 2 alphas for this kits. This one is fairly versatile so it could go with any number of kits. It started snowing yesterday and into the night! We woke up to about 4 inches of snow on the ground. That is BIG snow to us. The girls finally got to play in it. Here are some pictures taken from my window INSIDE. Sorry, I haven't gone out yet.

We have "lost" one of our remotes. It has seemingly disappeared from the house. I personally have looked high and low for it but to no avail! No remote. . . nada! It happens to be the remote to our DVD player. I tried playing an educational DVD for my daughter and I couldn't do it without the remote as there were menus that I had to click on WITH THE REMOTE. Yes, I know I could have gone into the other room and played it on another DVD player but that is not the point. The point is "there is a place for everything and everything in it's place". Enough of my soap box. I know that it WILL turn up when it is least expected!

Sometimes I feel like I make the same old things. (I'm talking digital scrapbooking right now.) Do you ever feel that way? Do your layouts all look the same? I know I have a style and certain colors that I like better than others but ... well, I'll go ahead and ask this. Are my kits looking all the same to you? What is your favorite kit that I have designed so far? As I ponder these questions I have more that fill my brain. . .

Happy Monday! I hope you had a relaxing and restful weekend. This weekend my husband and I made lasagna. Making lasagna at our house is very labor-intensive since we make everything from scratch (i.e. no spaghetti sauce from jars found here). Since it is so labor-intensive to make, we make a bunch and freeze it. So we made 6 large pans and froze 5 of them.

Here is the first Sunita Alpha. Designing alphas has not been my favorite thing to do but I guess I must be liking it more as I made 2 sets for this kit. Enjoy!

Greetings and salutations to all of my blog friends and Happy President's Day! I took a break from my blog but am happy to say that I am back. Since I got my camera back (from being repaired) I am on a quest to take photos of different textures that I can make papers out of. You'll probably see my results in the not-so-distant future.

I have a sneak preview of a new kit that I just designed called "Sunita". Why Sunita, you ask. Well, I'll tell you. I thought the name was lovely. There, you have it.

Canon Camera Customer Service

Does anyone have a Canon digital camera that is on the fritz? I have a Canon PowerShot S1 IS digital camera and it started taking photos with a purplish tone. Then it got worse. The photos had fine scratchy lines in them. I thought to myself ... I guess I'm going to have to get a new camera. I really liked my old one though! So I looked online for troubleshooting and found this web site . Apparently, Canon has an advisory out on my particular problem and they would fix it for free regardless of warranty status (click here for info). I called Canon and talked with a very kind customer service representative who took down my info. He told me that I would get a pre-paid UPS label via e-mail and to ship the camera to them so they could fix it. He also told me that Canon would stay in contact with me via e-mail regarding the status of my camera. I got the e-mail, shipped my camera to them, and received an e-mail on February 9th saying they received my camera. Now get this! I received another e-mail on February 10th stating they had repaired my camera and had shipped it via FedX. I got my camera back on February 12th and it works fine now! Talk about customer service! I thought that was exceptional! I will buy future cameras from Canon.

So, if you have a Canon digital camera that is on the fritz, you may want to check and see if your particular model is on the advisory list.

On a personal note, thank you to all who have inquired about me. I am doing fine (other than a slight cold). I just haven't been in a creative mood lately and my family life is keeping me extremely busy right now. Thanks to all who have given me ideas for a new kit. One of these days, I will be back!

I hope you are enjoying this kit. I have not been in a creative mood lately. You know the feeling... you work on a layout but it's not quite right and nothing is working. Well, that's where I am right now in creating a new kit. I am kind of leaning towards creating another "state" kit but don't know which state or the colors I would use. I've been wanting a Wii Fit since before Christmas but everywhere I go they are always sold out. Well, last night my hubby finally was able to find one at Circuit City. I'm not very good at balance but I can hoola-hoop! It's fun!

My daughter did end up competing at her gymnastics meet this weekend. She got 2 bronze metals and 1 silver. We are very proud of her. She is only 10 years old but these little girls compete on all 4 events, just like the Olympics. The bad thing is my camera is on the fritz! My hubby takes the camcorder and we did get video but no stills.

I have a question for all of you out there in Scrapland. This is showing my ignorance but I really want to know the answer. What does "scrap for hire" mean? I see that on so many kits out there but do not know what it means. Can someone enlighten me?

Here's the final part to Jeweltone. I'm using another one of Deb's containers (The Scrappin' Cop) for the preview. I really like texture so this alpha is no exception. Again, you can't really see all the texture in this preview. You'll just have to download it.

One of the things I really think is neat with this blog stuff is if someone leaves you a comment (and their blog address) you can go step inside "their house" and "visit" with them (providing that it is an open house and not private). I have been to quite a few "houses" getting to know you. Some of you (and you know who you are) I really feel like I know you . . . even though I've never met you personally. Kinda cool, huh? Does anyone else feel this way?

Old Barn Alpha

Does anyone make New Year's Resolutions? I try to read the Bible through every year. I've done it every year for 6 years except for last year. Homeschooling a high schooler kept me pretty busy this past year so I was only able to read the New Testament and about half of the Old Testament.
Many commit to losing weight. That's probably the number one resolution. I have never made that as a New Year's Resolution but recently I was reading Michele's blog and she mentioned that she lost a lot of weight using a web site called SparkPeople. I had never heard of it before so decided to check it out. It really is a neat site. It's FREE and has a nutrition tracker and fitness tracker on it. You can also sign up for support groups that will help you and encourage you. I signed up!

Happy New Year! As I reflect back on 2008 I think about all of my new blog friends that I have met. Less than 3 months ago I had never blogged before and had never designed kits before. What a joy it is for me to design these kits and give them away... knowing that, perhaps, I have given a small pleasure to someone, some element that they needed to create the perfect memory page, or some paper that would work with a certain photo. I'm going to do something "different" again. I've been working on a new kit called "Old Barn" but I'm gonna make you work for it. Here's a sneak preview to wet your appetite.

How this is going to work is this way: I will wait until I receive 10 comments under this post. When I receive 10 comments I will release the papers. Then, I need to receive 10 comments on the paper post in order to release the elements. Same thing for the alpha. You can comment as often as you want but only one comment from each different scrapper will be counted towards the goal of 10. Is this as clear as mud to you? Surprise! I couldn't resist giving you one more freebie from this kit after finding this great web site. Isn't the spiral notebook effect the coolest thing! You just have to go visit PanosFX.com to see all the great goodies that he has . . . actions, brushes, etc. It's like getting a bunch of Christmas presents! I made the spiral notebook through an action that I downloaded from him. When I read his terms of use I was unsure if he would consider what I do commercial since I give away everything I design for free so I e-mailed Panos. He promptly wrote me back and let me know that the action could be used since I do not charge any money. I always like to ask each designer about their specific terms if I am unsure about them. Look Mom! Sneak Preview

This coming week I am going to share a new kit that I designed that is not the norm for me. In other words, it will not be the earthy tones that I usually choose for my pallette. Instead, I decided to create a fun kit for those of you who have preschoolers and elementary children. Actually, anyone can use this kit but I had children in mind for this kit. We had an ice storm warning yesterday in our area. I was going to take my MIL to the Memphis airport but found out that her flight was cancelled. I'm kind of glad because I didn't want to go to Memphis in that weather. Her flight wasn't cancelled because of the weather though... they cancelled it due to airplane maintenance.

How is everyone today? I've been blog-hopping lately and everyone seems so busy! We went to my daughter's gymnastics meet this past weekend. My other daughter has a piano recital coming up this week. My MIL is also flying in for a visit later this week.

Hello to all of my friends,

I'm actually typing this on my computer! Yeah! After all the problems I've had with my computer I am finally up and running on it again. I got the new anti-virus that I ordered (Panda) and my husband ran it on my hard drives and found 28 spywares! They have been deleted and I am starting fresh and new.

I am getting into the Christmas spirit. We put up our Christmas tree yesterday. I'm not making a Christmas kit this year as there are so many nice ones out there.
